What’s behind our name

Maybe you’ve wondered where Black Petal Farm’s name came from. You’re definitely not the first! To understand our name, you have to understand a little bit about us.

First, we love showcasing the beauty to be found in the unexpected, unusual, and overlooked. We love the dramatic flowers, like dahlias and parrot tulips, in dramatic colors. We love the subtle beauty of sweet peas and nigella, and the fleeting fragrance of Bells of Ireland (if anyone can put that scent in words for me, I’d appreciate it!). We love bringing our customers cut flowers that they can’t get from the grocery store, like lisianthus and ranunculus, and narcissus and daffodils selected for their extraordinary form and fragrance.

We also love punk rock and heavy metal, and “Black Petal” rhymes pretty well with heavy metal. The heavy metal / floral mash-up mural done by graffiti artist MuckRock on our garage is a super fun representation of our farm: bold, beautiful, and delightfully weird.

A few years ago, when we started selling our cut flowers, we were noodling around name ideas. None of them felt right until the kiddo said, “What about Black Petal Farm?” Nailed it!

Black Petal Farm: we grow seriously kick-ass flowers.

Thanks for following along with us on our journey.
